MLS Tickets - Houston 3, Real Salt Lake 2 by Brent Warnken
The Houston Dynamo registered more goals in this contest than they did in their last four games. Brad Davis scored in the 81st minute and the Dynamo defeated Real Salt Lake 3-2. Get MLS tickets and see Davis score a goal.
The victory helped Houston (12-8-7) take the MLS lead over Columbus by a point and snapped a four-game winless streak. Houston coach Dominic Kinnear said the game was a "hard-fought win." The coach was pleased that his club won to extend their lead in the West and to get back to winning. But Kinnear pointed out the mistakes his club has to improve on in order to be a real threat in the playoffs. He stated that they started out great, but took their foot off the pedal.
The coach was disappointed that Houston allowed Real Salt Lake to come back into the game. Kinnear said Houston did not remain disciplined throughout the match. RSL (9-10-7) meanwhile, had its three-game unbeaten streak snapped and missed a chance to climb into a tie for fourth place in the Western Conference. RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando said his team came into a tough place to play and fought a hard battle against one of the best teams in the league. Although RSL couldn't pull off a victory, Rimando acknowledged that the match showed his team's character, and it gave them some confidence heading into the next couple of games. The goalkeeper wanted at least a point and three would have been great, but RSL has four games left of the season, which leaves 12 points to get.
Off a free kick by Davis, Brian Ching got his left foot on the ball in the middle of the box and scored 68 minutes into the game to give the Dynamo a 1-0 lead. Geoff Cameron followed with a goal after Davis shot a corner kick to extend Huston's lead to 2-0. Davis told the press Houston has been struggling lately, so the victory feels good. The midfielder continued to say that he gives a lot of credit to his teammates for making good runs. Houston was outscored 4-2 during its winless streak. Kyle Beckerman cut Dynamo's lead 2-1 in the 27th minute when he scored from the upper middle box. Yura Movsisyan tied it 2-all in the 60th minute after he fired a shot in the upper right box. The ball sailed into the left side of the net.
RSL coach Jason Kreis said he was extremely proud of how hard his club tried to win the game. The coach added that they have to feel good about their performance and prepare for next week's match, and the next three matches after that. Jamison Olave was sent off in the 32nd minute for a hard tackle to put RSL down a man, but Ching also earned a red card in the 82nd minute for a hip check to even the sides. Five yellow cards had been distributed by the end of the game and Dynamo assistant coach John Spencer was ejected from the sidelines.
